Therefor, Thailand has two distinct seasons Wet and Dry seasons. For the Dry seasons, if it is considered thoroughly, it can be divided into two seasons Hot and Cool seasons.

Hot season or pre-monsoon season is the period that Thailand receives the sun’s intense heat, and this season is the transitional period from the northeast to southwest monsoons. The weather becomes warmer, especially in upper Thailand. April is the hottest month.

  • Upper Thailand (the Northern, Northeastern, Central and Eastern Parts) usually experiences a long period of warm weather because of its inland nature and tropical latitude zone. March to May, the hottest period of the year, maximum temperatures usually reach near 104°F

RAINY SEASON

Rainy Season (mid-May to mid-October)

Rainy season or southwest monsoon season is an abundant rain prevails over Thailand. For the upper part of Thailand, rainy season is between mid-May and mid-October. Rainy season in the Southern part is different from upper Thailand due to the southwest and northeast monsoon periods. The wettest period of the year is August to September.

  • During the southwest monsoon by the Andaman Sea, the rainy season in the Southern Thailand’s west coast (Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi) is from late May to October. The West Coast receives much rainfall and reaches its peak in September.
  • The rainy season in the Southern Thailand’s East Coast by the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui) is from late August to early November. The East Coast receives much rainfall and reaches its peak is in November, and remains until January of the following year which is the beginning of the northeast monsoon.

COOL SEASON

Cool Season (mid-October to mid-February)

Cool season is the northeast monsoon season that prevails over Thailand from mid-October. In this season the outbreaks of cold air from China occasionally reduces temperatures to fairly low values, especially in the Northern and Northeastern Parts. This is the mild period of the year with quite cool in December and January in upper parts of Thailand, and December is the coolest month of the year.

  • The cool season normally runs from November thru February and will still feel hot to most visitors, but much of the country does experience a short cold snap for a week or so in December, especially in the north and northeast where it can get quite chillier than the other parts of Thailand
  • The South of Thailand has only two seasons: hot and rainy season. (hot period is around 4 months and rainy period is around 8 months), and its temperatures are generally mild throughout the year because of the maritime characteristic of this region.

Average temperatures in cool season

  • For most parts of Thailand day time having average of 64-88 °F, and night time temperatures drop to around 59 °F
  • In the north and northeast day time having maximum temperatures around 86 °F; daily temperatures can average 70 °F and After sunset, sometimes low around 50 °F
